Abstract
The purpose of this study is to compare the value of binocular visual function with free space and mechanical space. The subjects were 67 healthy men and women between the age of 20 to 34(mean 26.11¡¾2.56) years old. Refractive error in subjects was measured using the Auto-refractormeter(KR-7100P, Topcon Co.) and subjective refraction. Binocular vision exfunction was measured using the Phoropter(Shin-Nippon BR-7), Chart project(Topcon ACP-7), Trial Frame (FM580), Lens Holder Kit(Gulden Ophthalmics co.), Loose Prism, MIM Card(Bernell co.), Prism Bar(Gulden Ophthalmics co.).
The deviation was measured for viewing distance of 5m and 0.40 m using both phoropter and trial frame. The mean horizontal deviations in phoropter was VG(distance) -0.78¡¾2.14¡â, VG(near) -2.63¡¾4.64¡â, MR(distance) -0.35¡¾1.85¡â, MR(near) -1.69¡¾4.80¡â, MT(distance) -0.40¡¾1.81¡â, MT(near) -1.78¡¾4.52¡â. The mean horizontal deviations in trial frame was VG(distance) -0.36¡¾1.70¡â, VG(near) -1.43¡¾4.00¡â, MR(distance) -0.08¡¾1.54¡â, MR(near) -1.07¡¾4.15¡â, MT(distance) -0.13¡¾1.75¡â, MT(near) -1.24¡¾4.46¡â.
Smooth vergence was NFV(break/recovery) 10.15¡â/6.37¡â, PFV 18.58¡â/9.43¡â and near vergences was NFV 19.01¡â/12.18¡â, PFV 20.13¡â/11.65¡â. Step vergence was NFV 8.46¡â/4.73¡â, PFV 14.40¡â/7.89¡â and near vergences was NFV 15.78¡â /9.97¡â, PFV 17.90¡â/11.03¡â.
Although the confidence level of a phoria in phoropter and trial frame did not make a significant difference, the exo-phoria level measured using VG method was a little bit higher than that measured using MR method or MT method.
In conclusion, the measurement vary a little according to the phoria measurement method, and phoria level and fusional vergence measured in free space and limited space vary according to the meature method, but it is considered not to make a significant difference clinically.
